Hello! I’m Phil, an Episcopal priest serving at a parish church in the heartland of the United States. This is a page where I share my sermons and other writings.
The title of this blog is inspired by the Gospel according to St. Matthew, when the Magi encounter the Christ child and experience a transformative relationship with God:
“On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure-chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road.” (Matthew 2:11-12)
The literal meaning of the passage is clear, but “another road” also suggests to me a new way of journeying through life–a way shaped by attentiveness to love, wonder, and justice, all of which are embodied in Jesus, the incarnation of Holy Mystery.
Thanks for stopping by and walking with me for a bit on this road upon which we are all pilgrims.
